The Friends of the Five Parishes is a registered charity, number 1059862. Charity registration was achieved in December 1996.

The object of The Friends of the Five Parishes is to assist in the maintenance (repair, restoration, improvement, beautification, extension and reconstruction for the benefit of the public) of the fabric of the churches of Broxted, Tilty, Great Easton and Little Easton. The word 'fabric' includes the buildings together with monuments, fixtures, fittings, furniture, stained glass, ornaments, chattels and churchyards.

Although Chickney is a Five Parishes' church, the Churches Conservation Trust maintains the building and the parish of Chickney is now incorporated within Broxted.

The aim of The Friends is to be another source of money that can be used to preserve the fabric of the churches of Broxted, Tilty, Great Easton and Little Easton. These churches are architectural and historic treasures. We have inherited them from previous generations who built them and cared for them down the centuries. Such venerable structures need regular maintenance and restoration - and sometimes change and adaptation - if they are to be preserved for the use and enjoyment of future generations. The costs of this are more than the individual church congregations can carry.

The Friends is run by an Executive Committee of eight people whose task is to administer the Charity as required by the Charity Commissioners, to arrange the raising of funds and to decide how the money will be disbursed.

Details of membership and other information regarding The Friends can be obtained from the Secretary, c/o Old House, The Broadway, Dunmow, Essex CM6 3BH e-mail angela.harbottle@virgin.net.
