Tilty church
which is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, is situated in the hamlet of Tilty, adjacent to the Village of Duton Hill. This church, the smallest in the Parish and of outstanding historical and architectural interest (listed grade 1), was built circa 1220 (nave) and circa 1330 (chancel) as the "chapel without the gate" of the Cistercian Abbey of Tilty which was founded in 1153. Apart from a splendid 18th century belfry and a 19th century vestry and simple porch, the church has changed very little over the centuries.
There is much to admire and enjoy; the reticulated tracery in the fine east window, the sedilia and the memorial brasses are especially fine.
Each Autumn, Tilty have a Flower Festival as part of the Harvest Festival. If you would like to see last years picture - click on the photograph
