Our worship

Our worship is the central activity underpinning everthing we undertake. All four main churches are used in rotation; the majority of the congregation attend all churches. Refreshments are provided after the 11.00am services.

We continue to hold a Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion (said) Service at 9.00am most Sundays. Once per month at 6.00pm we have a Service of Evensong (except December, January, February and August). Refer to the services this month.

In addition we have an All Age Service every Sunday at 11.00am. While all ages are welcome at our services, we recognise that we also need to make this service more inclusive of all ages. Currently the Parochial Church Council and Church Committees are considering how we might do this.

On the 4th Sunday of the month at 11.00am, this is a service of Holy Communion.

When a 5th Sunday arises we see this as an opportunity to have a more informal approach while retaining our Anglican framework. Currently this is a more participatory service.

Music in The Five Parishes including The Five Parishes Choir

Two talented organists play at church services and direct our choir. The choir supports the hymn singing and performs choral works as appropriate. They also sing at weddings, subject to availabilty. Contact Peter Smith on 01371 870617 for more information.

A team of hand-bell ringers plays pieces on special occassions throughout the year. Flute and guitar accompaniments have recently made an appearance.

The bells are rung prior to our 11.00am service and for weddings in Great Easton church. Occasionally, other teams visit.

Many come to enjoy the rich history which the churches offer, while others come for the peace and quiet of the local surroundings - to pause and to pray.

The Mothers' Union

The Mothers' Union logoTHE FIVE PARISHES BRANCH OF THE MOTHERS' UNION

Broxted with Chickney, Tilty, Great Easton and Little Easton in the Dunmow and Stansted Deanery of the Diocese of Chelmsford The Mothers' Union is an international Christian charity that seeks to support families worldwide.

In over 78 countries, our members share one heartfelt vision - to bring about a world where God's love is shown through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships. This is not a vague hope, but a goal we actively pursue through prayer, programmes, policy work and community relationships. By supporting marriage and family life, especially through times of adversity, we tackle the most urgent needs challenging relationships and communities. Find out more.

Our Five Parishes Branch was formed in the 1980's by an amalgamation of branches from the churches in the parish. It is at present run by a committee building on the work of our founders and past generations of members.

For more information about the Branch and its work contact
Clare Rawes on 01371 872640 or Molly Warboys on 01371 859822.
As at January 2010 the Branch has 26 members. We meet for prayer, fellowship and support of Mothers' Union objectives. We have talks from speakers on matters of parish, local and international interest. We have a list of Diocesan speakers and at least two of these visit us each year.

We meet each month (except August) on the third Wednesday at 2.30pm. Each edition of "The Five Parishes Magazine" (published monthly) has an entry which gives the venue and other details of the meeting.

Our Branch through the Diocese, is linked with the Dioceses of George (South Africa), Hpa'an and Tounyoo (Myanmar), Meru (Kenya), New Bussa (Nigeria) and also to members in Thailand. Find out more information about the activities of The Mothers' Union in Chemsford Diocesan.
